Dr. Pastor Raymond A. Bell, Jr.

"My heart yearns and rejoices when I can assist people to overcome their strongholds, struggles and addictions, for I too have experienced hurt, pain, and woundedness to a point where I was unhealthy and in need of healing.”

Senior Pastor, Dr. Raymond A. Bell, Jr., as he expresses the joy he finds in helping others.

For the past 22 years, Pastor Bell has faithfully served the Mount Hope Baptist Church family and the surrounding community by providing spiritual growth, counseling, and leadership.  Skilled with the ability to strategically plan, coach, and mentor, Mount Hope continues to expand under his leadership.

Passionate about helping others, Pastor Bell established the Hope Community Development Corporation, a 501(c)3 outreach service organization which partners with the community to deliver effective life services in three areas: Senior Health Enrichment, Workforce Development, and First Time Homeownership.  He also founded the Mount Hope Academy and continues to build upon various community activities through the Outreach Ministry of Mount Hope.  Being a visionary, Pastor Bell’s focus is to expand Mount Hope's presence and its ministries in Fredericksburg and the surrounding communities.  With the purchase of 20 acres of land across from the current church site, he is working effortlessly, along with church disciples, toward the future development of Mount Hope.  Recognizing people are thirsty for spiritual growth; Pastor Bell’s vision includes the expansion of the church by providing a 2500 seat sanctuary, an office complex, and a Family Life Center.

An American University graduate with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Justice and Law, Pastor Bell’s preparation for his ministry involved obtaining a Masters of Art in Christian Education from Presbyterian School of Christian Education; and a Masters of Divinity from Virginia Union University School of Theology, both located in Richmond, Virginia.  In 1993, he continued his Christian education by obtaining his Doctorate of Ministry from Howard University in Washington, DC.  In June 2006, Pastor Bell became the first African American recipient of the Lilly Foundation Sabbatical Grant for Clergy, and is a member of the Hollifield Sustaining Pastoral Excellence Leading Edge Pastors.  Even though he has been blessed to be academically prepared to “preach the Gospel,” Pastor Bell finds joy in his desire to birth individuals to the next level of their lives, both spiritually and professionally.  Seeing people reaching their fullest potential is what Pastor Bell loves most about his ministry.  A life long learner, Pastor Bell has responded to the call of God to grow the body of Christ, apostolically, by allowing the five-fold ministry gifts (Ephesians 4:11) of believers to come into fruition.
